Athletes Wanted For 2010 Henderson Senior Games

HENDERSON, Nev. – Nevada’s senior athletes (ages 50 and up) can still register to participate in the 2010 Henderson Senior Games through March 15. Registration is $15 per person (with exception to volleyball), which includes an event T-shirt, program guide and results booklet. There is also a per-event fee for each competition entered. Most events are $3 to $5 per person, with exception to golf ($28-$45 per person) and volleyball, which has a per-team fee only. Registration packets are available online at cityofhenderson.com and at the Arroyo Grande Sports Complex, 298 Arroyo Grande Blvd. Walk-ons will be accepted at some events pending space availability. The Henderson Senior Games is sponsored by the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department.

The program is a competitive social event that combines sports and games with camaraderie. The athletic events take place March 23-April 25 at various locations throughout Henderson. First, second and third place coins or medallions will be presented at the close of each event. Events include basketball, bicycle time trials, fitness, golf, power lifting, table tennis, tennis, Texas Hold ‘Em, bowling, and volleyball.

“Each year this program attracts some remarkable athletes, from the serious to the more casual,” said Michele Howard, program coordinator, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “The spirit of friendly competition ensures everyone puts forth their best efforts in every sport. It’s an inspiring program.”

Participants requiring special accommodations are asked to contact the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department Sports office in advance at 702-267-5717.
