Arbor Day Foundation Honors Henderson With Tree City USA Recognition

HENDERSON, Nev. – The Arbor Day Foundation has recognized the City of Henderson as a Tree City USA community for its commitment to urban forestry. It marks the nineteenth year that Henderson has earned this national recognition. Tree City USA is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.

To be considered for the honor, a community must have a tree board or department, tree care ordinance, comprehensive urban forestry program, and an Arbor Day observance or event and a proclamation.

The City of Henderson also received the Tree City USA Growth Award, which honors environmental improvement and higher levels of tree care in Tree City USA communities. The City was recognized for its ongoing community forestry program, including partnerships, planning and management, green industry partnerships, and new projects.

“Trees are a vital part of our city’s infrastructure because they provide unlimited health and environmental benefits, which contribute to an improved quality of life for our residents,” said Dominick Casey, assistant director, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “Henderson has always maintained a strong commitment to planting and caring for trees and educating the community about the importance of the urban forest, and this will continue to be a priority for many years to come.”
