The Las Vegas Shakespeare Company presents Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka at the Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Pkwy., Friday, April 4-Sunday, April 6 and Friday, April 11-Sunday, April 13. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m. with Sunday matinees starting at 4 p.m. Tickets are $10.
Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka is inspired by Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the 1971 Oscar-nominated motion picture based on the novelist’s popular children’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The musical adaptation brings to life the timeless tale of a mysterious candy maker in search of a successor to run his chocolate factory, with favorite songs from the family film.
Audiences will join their favorite (and not so favorite) golden ticket winners on a fantasy ride into the land of pure imagination, touring the world-famous candy man’s chocolate factory, where chocolate is a river, squirrels find the good and bad nuts, and Violet turns violet. The play, which teams up local director Gerry Born with Charlotte’s Web and Broadway musical director Jack Gaughan, will delight the sweet tooth with an amazing set design and a scrumdidilyumptious musical score by Leslie Bricusse, including such favorites as “Candy Man” and “Pure Imagination,” as well as new songs created specifically for the musical.
