Henderson, Nev. – The city of Henderson is hosting a series of informational meetings with the community to discuss the city’s budget and to present the recommendations from the Special Budget Ad Hoc Committee (SBAHC) report. The SBAHC was a committee of community and business leaders appointed by the city council to make recommendations to the city to help fill the city’s operating and capital needs budget shortfalls.

“When the SBAHC presented their recommendations, the mayor and council asked us to go out into the community and inform our residents about the committee’s work and what their recommendations were,” said Henderson City Manager Jacob Snow. “We will be working in the coming weeks to be in as many places as we can to help share that information.”

Recommendations from the SBAHC include rate increases for city services, service cuts, alternatives to service delivery and revenue enhancements including a ballot initiative to raise the city’s property tax rate, which is the lowest in the valley and has not been changed for 23 years.

The city is hosting meetings in each City Council Ward, in addition to visiting community, civic and professional groups. Residents interested in learning more can visit the city’s website, www.cityofhenderson.com, to see the full report from the committee. Residents can also request a representative from the city to visit their group or organization by calling 267-2080 or by going to the website.

WHAT: Community meetings to discuss the recommendations to meet the city’s operational and capital needs budget shortfalls. Recommendations include rate increases for city services, service cuts, alternatives to service delivery and revenue enhancements including a property tax ballot initiative.
