Henderson Police Arrest 14 Impaired Drivers During Super Bowl Weekend

Henderson, Nev. – Henderson Police officers arrested 14 drivers on DUI charges and handed out nearly 300 tickets to motorists during a recent enforcement effort targeting impaired drivers over the Super Bowl weekend.
Traffic officers conducted a Joining Forces event with officers from neighboring jurisdictions, using saturation patrols to look for impaired drivers. The combined effort took place January 31 through February 2.
Henderson Police officers made a total of 223 stops and assisted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department with their DUI checkpoint.
Officers issued 86 tickets to motorists for speeding and another 19 citations for running a red light. Officers also issued 50 tickets for drivers with no insurance, registration violations and driving on a revoked, suspended or expired driver’s license.
In 2013, there were 267 people killed in motor vehicle crashes on Nevada roadways, with 8 of those deaths occurring in Henderson. Alcohol was a contributing factor in 63 of those deaths, according to the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety.
The Henderson Police Traffic Unit received funding from the Department of Public Safety - Office of Traffic Safety, as part of the Joining Forces Grant. The grant provides funding for enforcement and education to reduce deaths and injuries on Nevada roadways. The grant will assist in funding special enforcement details throughout the year targeting seat belt usage, DUIs, pedestrian safety and speeding violations.
