Premier city celebrates 10 years of St. Patrick’s Day festivities

Southern Nevada residents and visitors are invited to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the city of Henderson. The city hosts the 48th Annual Southern Nevada Sons & Daughters of Erin St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival, Thursday, March 13-Sunday, March 16, at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 Water St., in the Water Street District. Admission is complimentary (Some activities may require paid admission).
In addition to keeping Irish heritage alive in Southern Nevada for nearly 50 years, the Southern Nevada Sons & Daughters of Erin celebrates 10 years of hosting the event in Henderson. “We are honored the Southern Nevada Sons & Daughters of Erin have chosen our premier city as their home for their annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration,” said Mayor Andy Hafen. “With their dedication, the event is one of our largest signature events. We hope it continues to grow for decades to come.”
With four days of celebrations, the event is considered one of the biggest St. Patrick’s Day events in the nation and features festivities for people of all ages and interests. The family-friendly event includes a four-day carnival, car show and festival, complete with performances by Irish bands, Celtic dancers and traditional Irish cuisine.
The parade, scheduled for Saturday, March 15 at 10 a.m., is known as one of the largest parade processions in the state of Nevada. It features 100 parade entries, which will be decorated to this year’s theme, “Shamrocks and Shenanigans.” Organizers are excepting parade applications through Wednesday, February 12. The fee is $50.
Proceeds from the 48th Annual Southern Nevada Sons & Daughters of Erin St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival benefits the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research.
