Henderson, Nev. – The City of Henderson Blue Ribbon Commission on Educational Excellence and Youth Opportunity (Henderson Blue Ribbon Commission) is hosting its annual teen Leadership Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9 at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 Water St. The purpose of the event is to encourage teens to become leaders.

More than 200 students from Henderson area high schools are expected to take part. Guest speakers include community leaders and personal coaches. Students will also break out into three workshop sessions, which provide opportunities for hands-on involvement, interaction and collaboration. The workshops are facilitated by student and adult members of the Henderson Blue Ribbon Commission.

The theme of this year’s Leadership Day is “Step Up! Your Community. Your World.” The theme ties leadership to individual, community and world involvement.

“The high school students of today are the leaders of tomorrow and they are eager for opportunities to step up,” said Mayor Andy Hafen. “Leadership Day provides these students with a chance to explore what leadership means, as an individual, as a member of a community such as Henderson or as a citizen of the global community.”
