Henderson, Nev. – A 55-year-old Henderson woman died Friday morning after the car she was driving crossed over into oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle head-on near Lake Las Vegas.
The woman was driving a Toyota Camry westbound on Lake Mead Parkway east of Lake Las Vegas Parkway near the entrance to the Three Kids Mine when she drifted into the eastbound lane and struck a Toyota Prius head-on about 6:20 a.m. Friday.
The woman was taken to Sunrise Hospital for treatment; however, she died about 9:15 a.m. The driver of the Prius, Susan Pesava, 69, of Henderson, was also taken to Sunrise Hospital for treatment. She is expected to survive her injuries. Both women were the only occupants of their vehicles.
A preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash. The crash remains under investigation. The roadway was closed for about three hours while fatal accident investigators conducted their investigation.
The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the woman’s name after she has been positively identified and her family has been notified.
In 2013, 267 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes on Nevada roadways. So far this year, 115 people have died in traffic-related fatalities statewide with 63 of those deaths occurring in Clark County. Friday’s fatal accident was the fifth traffic-related death in Henderson this year.
