Henderson, Nev. – The United States Tennis Association (USTA) Intermountain Section has named the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department 2013 Organization of the Year. The award was presented at the International Tennis Association’s annual conference on December 7 in Denver, Colorado. As a section winner, the city is now under consideration to win USTA National Organization of the Year.
The Organization of the Year award recognizes services rendered to USTA by community tennis associations, clubs, and parks and recreation agencies in Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming. Judging criteria includes scope and reach of USTA programs run by the agency; range of ages, skill levels and abilities serviced through the agency’s programs; and number and physical appearance of tennis courts managed by the agency.
“We value the outstanding partnership between the city and the USTA and the benefits this partnership brings to our residents,” said Mayor Andy Hafen. “Tennis is a lifetime sport for recreational and serious players alike, and we provide a nationally-recognized program here on our 57 courts in Henderson.”
