Henderson, Nev. – A 66-year-old Henderson man died Saturday after likely having a medical episode while driving and then crashing his car.
The man was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu westbound on Galleria Drive at Marks Street about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday when the car went off the roadway. The man was found slumped over the wheel unconscious and may have suffered a heart attack. He was taken to St. Rose Hospitals – Rose de Lima Campus; however, he died at the hospital.
The preliminary investigation indicates that he likely had a medical episode prior to the crash. The car drove off the roadway onto the sidewalk striking a jersey wall and riding along the wall. The car continued more than 200 feet through the intersection sideswiping a light pole. The car was redirected and came to rest. No one else was in the car and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Speed, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash. The roadway was closed for nearly three hours while fatal accident investigators conducted their investigation.
The Clark County Coroner’s Office will determine the man’s cause of death. If the man died from the medical episode and not from the injuries sustained in the crash, the death would not be considered a traffic fatality.
The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s name after he has been positively identified and his family has been notified.
