October 07, 2013

Henderson, Nev. The Henderson Blue Ribbon Commission on Educational Excellence and Youth Opportunity (Blue Ribbon Commission) is hosting its College Night Workshop from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, at Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Rd. The free workshop offers parents and students insight, recommendations and tips on preparing for college. Registration is not required.

Presenters will explore a variety of topics, including resumes, cover letters, applications, scholarship resources, extracurricular activities that attract colleges’ attention, volunteer service recommendations, and a list of high school classes that most colleges require.

“Preparing for college requires a great deal of time, effort and insight, and this workshop provides essential information that will assist parents and teens as they navigate this important path,” said Mayor Andy Hafen. “I’m pleased that the city’s Blue Ribbon Commission continues to place a strong emphasis on outreach to high school students throughout our community with their message about the importance of education.”
