Cornerstone Park Grand Opening Set For June 15

June 03, 2013

Henderson, Nev. The city of Henderson will host a grand opening celebration for Cornerstone Park at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 15. The park is located at 1600 Wigwam Pkwy. near Stephanie Street. Mayor Andy Hafen and members of the Henderson City Council will dedicate the park.

The celebration includes a ceremonial ribbon cutting, activities, bounce house and guided birding tours. A complimentary bike valet will be available for residents riding their bikes to the event.

The 100-acre park is highlighted by a 31-acre lake (not intended for swimming or recreational use), basketball courts, volleyball courts, individual picnic pavilions with lake views, walking trails and exercise stairs. The park also features a corporate plaza area and catering kitchen that can be rented for special events and gatherings.

“Cornerstone Park provides residents with a variety of recreation experiences, whether it’s a pick-up game of basketball, a scenic place for a family picnic, or a quiet walk around the lake,” said Mayor Andy Hafen. “I also envision Cornerstone Park as an in-demand location for community events, corporate functions, and large gatherings. It is a true asset to our premier parks system.”

Funding of $16.4 million for Cornerstone Park was received through a grant from the Bureau of Land Management as authorized by the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA). The city of Henderson has received more than $238 million in SNPLMA funding over the last decade for parks, trails and open space projects to benefit the community.
