Henderson, Nev. – The city of Henderson is seeking athletes to take part in the 2013 Henderson Senior Games, an annual program that celebrates the spirit of friendly competition with a blend of sporting and social events for athletes ages 50+. Athletes of all skill levels are invited to participate.
Registration is open Feb. 1-March 15 and is $15 per person (with exception to volleyball), which includes a commemorative T-shirt. There is a nominal cost per event, with most events costing $3-$5 each. Registration packets are available online at http://www.cityofhenderson.com/parks/special_events/henderson_senior_games.php and at the city’s recreation centers. Although registration will not be accepted after the deadline, walk-ons may be accepted for some events pending space availability.
The 2013 Henderson Senior Games take place April 6-28 at a variety of Henderson locations including recreation centers, parks and schools. Awards will be presented following each event. Sports include table tennis, tennis, basketball skills, track and field, bowling, and volleyball. This year, for the first time, pickleball will also be available.
“I’ve often said that it’s great to be 50 plus in Henderson, and programs like the Henderson Senior Games are a great reason why,” said Mayor Andy Hafen. “The program draws athletes from throughout Southern Nevada as well as from out of state to take part in a premier, well-organized athletic program that celebrates the athletic spirit.”
