Henderson, Nev. – A 68-year-old man and his 65-year-old passenger died late Saturday in a three-vehicle accident in Henderson.
The accident occurred about 11:20 p.m. Saturday on Sunset Road at Eastgate Road. A 1995 Windstar minivan driven by the 68-year-old Henderson man was northbound on Eastgate Road and was struck by a 2009 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Elfriede Cook, 76, travelling on Sunset Road.
The man’s car was struck on the left side causing it to roll onto its side and slide through the intersection into the path of a 2006 Hyundai Elantra driven by Mary Brooks, 18, where it was struck again.
The man and his female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Cook and her passenger and Brooks were taken St. Rose Hospital Siena Campus for treatment.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the 68-year-old man either failed to yield to on-coming traffic on Sunset Road after stopping at the intersection or he failed to stop at the intersection.
Sunset Road was closed for about four hours while the accident investigation was being conducted.
The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the victims’ names after their families have been notified.
So far this year there have been six fatalities in Henderson in three fatal accidents.
