HENDERSON, Nev. – The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is offering teens an opportunity to gain valuable career and life skills through its Teens-N-Training (TNT) junior leader program. The program runs throughout the summer.

The purpose of TNT is to train teens to become future recreation leaders and to provide assistance with the Parks and Recreation Department’s summer programs, including camps. TNT provides teens opportunities to enhance-confidence, gain leadership experience, and learn to provide outstanding customer service. Responsible teens selected to participate are given a summer assignment based on their skills, interests, availability, and location preference.

Applications are available online at cityofhenderson.com (type TNT in the search box) and at all City of Henderson recreation centers. Participation is open to teens ages 14 and 15 for $110. Space is limited and applications are accepted through April 20.

“This program provides teens with a hands-on opportunity to learn what it is like to interact with the public, be part of a team, and demonstrate leadership and responsibility,” said Xanie Gann, Recreation Services supervisor. “All qualifying teens are interviewed, which gives them the chance to experience what a real job interview is like. The interviews also help us to get to know each teen and identify which candidates are the most enthusiastic and willing to commit for an entire summer. We’re looking for teens with a positive attitude and a desire to excel.”

Teens chosen for the program will attend a training workshop that covers communication skills, leadership, conflict resolution, and program policies. Parents are also invited to participate in a workshop that provides an overview of the TNT program and outlines expectations.
