HENDERSON, Nev. –Mayor Andy Hafen will take part in the Meals On Wheels Association of America’s (MOWAA) Mayors For Meals Day on March 21. For the second year in a row, Mayor Hafen will ride with the City’s Meals On Wheels drivers to deliver meals to homebound Henderson seniors.

Mayors For Meals is a component of MOWAA’s March For Meals, which uses the involvement of local mayors and other elected officials to raise awareness about senior hunger. These elected officials deliver meals on a designated day each March to show support for their local senior nutrition program. The goal is to end senior hunger by 2020.

“While taking part in this event last year, I discovered that senior hunger isn’t always a financial issue,” said Mayor Hafen. “Often, it’s the lack of access to reliable transportation or the inability to prepare meals due to a serious health issue that prevents seniors from getting the nutrition and the meals that they need. That is why Meals On Wheels is so vital.”

Mayor Hafen is delivering meals in support of Black Mountain Senior Nutrition, which operates at Heritage Park Senior Facility and is administered by the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department.

“Our program prepares and delivers an average of 350 Meals On Wheels each weekday, plus meals seniors can heat up over the weekend,” said Mayor Hafen. “These deliveries brighten seniors’ days and ensure they don’t go hungry. It’s gratifying to be a part of the program, even if just for a day.”
