Henderson, Nev. – The Henderson Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Conductor Taras Krysa, will share the stage with this year’s Young Artists Competition winners, a compilation of the valley’s elite junior and high school musicians, during the ensemble’s Concert Series II performance, Sunday, March 11 at 2 p.m. at the Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway. Admission is complimentary.
A tradition for the past 17 years, the Young Artists concert is one of the most unique opportunities offered to Clark County students. The recital creates a fun, innovative platform for scholar performers to showcase their exceptional talents to a larger audience. The spotlight will shine as individuals play beautiful arrangements by legendary composers, while accompanied by Henderson’s resident orchestra.
In January, over 30 young musicians, representing a mixture of Henderson and Las Vegas schools, auditioned in front of a panel of judges. Divided into junior, 6th-8th grade, and senior, 9th-12th grade, divisions, as well as into three categories, including strings, piano/voice and winds/brass/percussion, each prepared a 10-minute solo. Critiqued on individual performances, memorization skills and movement, evaluators selected the top seven instrumentalists for the spring show. A list of the Young Artists champions, as well as their chosen musical composition is below.
