Henderson, Nev. – Henderson Police officers conducted checks of underage alcohol compliance at stores over the weekend to help ensure that minors are not able to buy alcoholic beverages.
Officers from the Community Relations Unit, with the assistance of underage volunteers, checked 48 bars and restaurants throughout the city of Henderson Saturday night. Of the 48 businesses, 41 did not sell alcohol to the underage person. However, seven businesses did sell alcohol to the minor in violation of the Henderson Municipal Code 04.36.340, which prohibits the distribution of alcoholic beverages to minors.
The businesses that failed were:
• Railroad Pass Casino, 2800 S. Boulder Highway
• Rainbow Club, 122 S. Water Street
• Beach House Bar, 10430 S. Eastern Avenue
• Dotty’s Casino, 1133 N. Boulder Highway
• Sierra Gold, 1341 W. Warm Springs Road
• Barley’s Casino , 4500 E. Sunset Road
• Klondike Casino, 444 W. Sunset Road
The clerks were issued a citation for serving an underage person and face a maximum penalty of six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. The owners or managers of a business that fails a second or third time can also be issued a citation and could face the revocation of their business license.
During the operation, the minors also approached a total of 68 people asking that alcoholic beverages be bought for them. Only four people agreed to buy the alcoholic beverages for the minors. The four people were warned about the laws prohibiting buying alcoholic beverages for underage people.
In conjunction with the federal Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws grant, the Henderson Police Department will continue its effort to reduce juvenile alcohol-related crimes and alcohol abuse by minors with this ongoing program of monitoring the liquor-selling establishments within the community.
