Henderson, Nev. – The city of Henderson Fire Department anticipates responding to more than 16,000 calls for emergency medical services this year. Thanks to the implementation this week of an Electronic Patient Care Reporting (ePCR) system, the department expects to significantly improve medical outcomes for these patients, while at the same time cutting costs and creating efficiencies in the delivery of emergency medical services.

With the launch of ePCR, Henderson paramedics no longer create paper-based patient charts which later require manual data entry. The department’s system instead allows responders to electronically collect and immediately analyze health data on patients, sharing it over the Web with medical professionals while en route to the hospital. In addition, the system allows the department to gather and perform real-time monitoring of emergency medical services data so that improvement in treatments and patient care can be implemented in a matter of hours instead of weeks.

“We expect to see a measurable improvement in patient care outcomes with long-term use of ePCR,” explained Fire Chief Steve Goble. “This enhancement to the department’s operational efficiency will allow our paramedics to focus on their primary mission, which is to save lives.”

In addition to improving patient care in the field, ePCR will reduce costs, create process efficiencies and reduce environmental impact. These enhancements will simplify data collection and analysis so the department can examine ways to improve emergency medical service quality and effectiveness into the future.
