HENDERSON, Nev. – The City of Henderson and Nevada H.A.N.D., Inc. will host a grand opening celebration for the Downtown Senior Center and Pacific Pines 4 Senior Apartments at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 29, at 27 E. Texas Ave., located in Henderson’s historic Water Street District.
The celebration includes remarks, a ribbon cutting, refreshments, and tours of Pacific Pines 4 Senior Apartments and the Downtown Senior Center.
Pacific Pines 4 Senior Apartments is an affordable senior housing community that incorporates many sustainable and green building features such as photovoltaic solar energy, LED exterior lighting, high efficiency heating and cooling equipment, solar hot water panels, and high efficiency condensing boilers. The complex features 62 one- and two-bedroom apartments. The property is already fully occupied.
“We’re very fortunate to have had the opportunity to partner with the City of Henderson in the development of the Downtown Henderson Senior Center and Pacific Pines 4 Senior Apartments,” said Michael Mullin, founder and president of Nevada H.A.N.D., Inc. “This partnership is the first of its kind, and we are delighted to have worked together to help the City create a public facility that will better serve the needs of senior residents in this community.”
The new 6,000-square-foot Downtown Senior Center will offer an opportunity for visitors to learn about amenities and programs available to seniors.
“The opening of the Downtown Senior Center enables us to better serve the needs of seniors in our community, particularly those in the Downtown Henderson area,” said Mary Ellen Donner, director, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “Since this is a senior center and not a full-service recreation center, it nicely complements the services we are already providing at Heritage Park Senior Facility with virtually no overlap.”
The Downtown Senior Center will operate 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closed on Sunday and City-observed holidays. Amenities and services include a fitness room, wellness area, and nutrition program.
The City of Henderson owns the land on which the project was built and is leasing it to Nevada HAND for a term of 99 years. In turn, Nevada HAND is leasing a portion of the complex back to the City of Henderson for the same term for purposes of operating a senior center. The Senior Center is programed and staffed by the Parks and Recreation Department.
Nevada HAND is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit corporation with the mission of improving the lives of low-income individuals by providing affordable housing solutions and supportive services. Nevada HAND owns and operates 29 senior affordable communities representing over 3,000 apartments.
The nationally accredited City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department provides premium services through diverse and innovative parks, recreation and natural resource opportunities. It serves the community with seven recreation centers (including a facility for adults 50+), 11 pools, 54 parks, five skate parks, two sports complexes, more than 65 linear miles of trails, Acacia Demonstration Gardens, the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, and thousands of programs for people of all ages and abilities.
