Athletes Wanted For 2012 Henderson Senior Games

HENDERSON, Nev. –Registration is open for the 2012 Henderson Senior Games Feb. 1 through March 20. The annual program is a sporting and social event for athletes ages 50+ that celebrates the spirit of friendly competition and achievement. The program is sponsored by the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department.

 

Registration is $15 per person (with exception to volleyball), which includes an event T-shirt. There is a cost for each event entered, with most events $3-$5 each. Registration packets are available online at cityofhenderson.com/parks and at City of Henderson recreation centers. Registration will not be accepted after March 20, but walk-ons may be accepted at some events pending space availability.

 

The Henderson Senior Games takes place April 10-29 at a variety of Henderson locations, including recreation centers and parks. First, second and third place awards will be presented at the close of each event.

 

Scheduled events include basketball skills, bowling (singles, doubles and mixed doubles), fitness and powerlifting, golf (18 holes), table tennis (singles, doubles and mixed doubles), tennis (singles, doubles and mixed doubles), volleyball (men’s, women’s and coed team play), and track and field (springs, runs, javelin, jumps, discus, shot put and softball throw).

 

“There continues to be a growing interest in organized sporting events for active adults in our community, and the Henderson Senior Games provides an opportunity for athletes of all levels to get involved and to take part,” said Michele Howard, Recreation program coordinator, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “The spirit of friendly competition is what makes the program so appealing.”
