Arbor Day Celebration Set for April 27 at Morrell Park
Henderson Named a Tree City USA Community for the 21st Time

HENDERSON, Nev. – The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual Arbor Day celebration at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 27 at Morrell Park, 500 Harris St. The free event is open to people of all ages.
Mayor Andy Hafen, members of the City Council, and KVBC News 3 meteorologist Kevin Janison will join more than 800 Henderson elementary school students for the celebration and activities. In addition to a ceremonial tree planting, the event will include a bucket truck demonstration and recognition of the annual Arbor Day fourth grade poster contest winners.
The City will also be honored as a Tree City USA community for the 21st time by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service. In order to receive this national recognition, communities must meet a number of requirements, including having a comprehensive community forestry program. Henderson will also receive a Tree City USA Growth Award for demonstrating progress in its community forestry program.

City of Henderson Arbor Day and Arbor Week sponsors include the City of Henderson Commemorative Beautification Commission, Cash America/Super Pawn, Century 21 JR Realty, NV Energy, Jesse’s Pizza, Tronox LLC, Levi Strauss and Company, LandWell Company, Schilling Horticulture Group, Saguaro Power, Natural History Museum Science Festival, and First Choice Tree Service. The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners serves as an educational partner and provides volunteer support.
