Henderson, Nev. – Henderson placed among the top ten cities that are fitness walker friendly, according to Prevention magazine.

For the fifth year, Prevention teamed up with the American Podiatric Medical Association to evaluate fitness walking conditions in cities across the nation. Cities were rated using comprehensive criteria, including the percentage of adults who walk for health and walker friendly attributes such as beautiful places to walk, parks per square mile and safe streets.

“Our parks and trails system in Henderson provides an incredible opportunity for our people to go out and enjoy the beauty of our desert environment,” said Henderson Mayor James B. Gibson. “We’ve been diligent to incorporate interconnectivity as a theme throughout the city, and it’s nice to be recognized as a safe and friendly place for people to get out and live a healthier lifestyle.”

Henderson continues to focus on parks and recreational opportunities that contribute to a high quality of life. With 57 linear miles of trails in place or in progress, the city’s open space plan will provide more than 100 miles of connectivity throughout the community when completed. The more than 1,000 acres of parks, ball fields and open space and six recreation centers provide residents additional walking and fitness amenities.

Prevention is the leading healthy lifestyle magazine with 11 million readers. The April issue features the top 10 walking cities and more may be found at www.prevention.com/cities.
