Henderson, Nev. – Artist, architect, designer, engineer, philosopher, scientist and inventor: Leonardo da Vinci is the archetypal Renaissance man. More than 60 of his remarkable inventions and most famous paintings will be on display as part of The Da Vinci Experience. This exclusive Southern Nevada exhibit is located at the Henderson Events Plaza in the Water Street District at 200 South Water Street, and will be open from October 20, 2007 through March 2, 2008.
“There is incredible educational value in being able to see firsthand some of the wonders that da Vinci created and how his work impacted our modern life,” said Henderson Mayor James B. Gibson. “The interactivity of this exhibit is something that is engaging for young and old alike. Having the opportunity to host The Da Vinci Experience is exciting for us as a city and we hope everyone will avail themselves of the opportunity to come see first-hand some of the incredible inventions and art replicas that will be on display.”
All of the replicas in The Da Vinci Experience were designed from Leonardo’s notebooks, which contain more than 13,000 pages of notes and drawings, and were recreated using the same materials and techniques that would have existed in his time – 15th and 16th centuries. The replicas are organized in three viewing galleries: transportation, military and mechanical. Visitors will get a chance to see prototypes for the first bicycle, the first car, the first helicopter and the first parachute, among others.
Copies of Leonardo’s original drawings and sketches can be found in close proximity to the replicas enabling visitors to compare the sketches with the models. In addition, many of the exhibit’s designs are interactive so both children and adults can understand precisely how the groundbreaking machines accomplish their work.
Other features of The Da Vinci Experience include a theater showing a short film about Leonardo da Vinci, a gallery housing replicas of many of his paintings, interactive computer kiosks and a gift shop.
The Da Vinci Experience is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Ticket prices are $17 for adults, $12 for seniors (ages 65+) and students (ages 7-17) and active duty military, and $55 for families of five. Children age six and younger are free. Groups of ten or more are $11 each and school groups, also with ten or more, are $9 each. Tickets are available at the exhibit. For more information call 267-4TIX or visit www.HendersonLive.com.
