WinterFest, Henderson’s much-anticipated holiday event, will be held December 12-14 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 Water Street. Bring the family and enjoy an old-fashioned Christmas delight with such wintertime traditions as horse-drawn carriage rides, carolers and a special visit from St. Nick. The evening light parade illuminates Water Street on December 14 at 5pm. Don’t forget to check out the larger-than-life, one-of-a-kind holiday fish tank designed by the guys from Animal Planet’s hit show, Tanked. Admission is complimentary.

Please note: Portions of Water Street will be closed during the event. For a complete list of closures and an entertainment schedule, visit HendersonLive.com or call the city of Henderson Cultural Arts & Tourism Department at (702) 267-2171.

Don't get so "wrapped up" in the holidays that you forget to share the love with your pets! Make it a Happy Howliday and Meowy Catmus for all!

The holiday season is upon us! Barkules is excited that so many homeless pets, at shelters everywhere, are finding forever homes not just for the holidays, but for the rest of their lives!

And while there are still many more needing homes, many folks think that giving a pet as a gift is a good idea. It is not. If you want to give the gift of life by adopting a pet from the shelter, consider purchasing a Gift Certificate for an adoption, instead of choosing the pet for the intended gift recipient. This way, the person can choose the fur-ever friend that is right for them. It most likely will result in a lifelong commitment between the two, instead of the person feeling forced to take a pet that they did not choose.

The Henderson Animal Care and Control Facility, its employees and all the pets,
wish you a Happy Holiday!

Annabelle #739820 - six year old spayed female, domestic short hair cat.

Tundra #699345 - five year old, neutered male, Alaskan Klee Kai mix.

These are just a few of the pets available for adoption at the Henderson Animal Shelter. Learn more by calling (702) 267-4970 or visit the website.

Holiday Safety Shopping Tips

Before you hit the stores, the Henderson Police Departmetn recommend that you take a look at their Holiday Safety Shopping Tips.

And remember, officers from our Community Relations Unit (CRU) are available to attend your HOA board meetings and help you set up a Neighborhood Watch. If your neighborhood is experiencing any problems, they can also discuss various crime prevention strategies that can be implemented.

Holiday tree recycling is coming December 26-January 16!

Add life to the beautiful trees that grace our city parks by recycling your holiday tree. Transforming it into mulch will ensure that your tree is a gift that keeps on giving!

Mulch keeps water in the soil, cools the area, limits weeds and, over time, adds nutrients to trees. Adding mulch to trees growing in urban environments is strongly encouraged.

Please bring your fresh tree (no artificial or flocked trees) to one of the following locations:

Anthem Hills Park - 2256 N. Reunion Dr.

Acacia Park – 50 Casa del Fuego St.

Pecos Legacy Park – 150 Pecos Rd.

Mission Hills Park – 51 E. Mission Dr.

Morrell Park – 500 Harris St.

Whitney Ranch Recreation Center – 1575 Galleria Dr.

Arroyo Grande Sports Complex – 298 Arroyo Grande Blvd.

Your trees at home are important too! Make sure to attend the mulch give-away scheduled for Pecos Legacy Park on Saturday, January 4, and Acacia Park on Saturday, January 11. Don't forget to bring your shovel and containers!
