December 2011 | News and information from the City of Henderson

MAYOR ANDY HAFEN
This year was filled with many triumphs for our community, from being named America's second safest city, to winning awards for our superb parks and recreation facilities, to being ranked one of the top 25 suburbs for retirement. Henderson excels in the areas that residents find most important to their quality of life. As I reflect back on our accomplishments, I am reminded that every single resident takes part in building a premier community. It is the less tangible achievements that I am most proud, and for which I would like to give thanks. I offer my sincerest gratitude for all your daily acts of kindness toward each other, and good works in the community, that make Henderson a better city for all of us. RECYCLE YOUR HOLIDAYS
Christmas trees are one of the most recognized holiday traditions, yet most trees are simply discarded rather than being recycled. Trees can be recycled by dropping them off at a recycling center where they are chipped into mulch and used in public gardens and parks across the valley. You may drop off your Christmas tree for free at over 20 convenient locations from December 26 to January 15. Remove all objects such as lights, wire, tinsel, ornaments and nails, which could contaminate the mulch and damage the chipper. Flocked trees cannot be recycled. If you are unable to drop off your tree, call 1-800-GOT-JUNK? to have your tree picked up for a fee. For the location of the drop-sites nearest you, and other ways that you can celebrate sustainable holidays, visit www.cdsn.org.

HEALTH FAIRS PROMOTE HEATHLY HEARTS
The City of Henderson Fire Department will host two Healthy Heart Health Fairs in February, to provide information to the Henderson senior community on health-related issues and how to take preventative steps in making our community a healthier place to live. The fairs will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on February 8 at the Heritage Park Senior Facility, located at 300 S. Racetrack Rd. and February 22 at Fire Station 99, located at 2401 Atchley Dr. The Fire Department will provide free blood pressure checks as one of those preventative steps in their "Healthy Heart" initiative in the month of February, American Heart Month. Local health-related vendors will also offer attendees a free service or information related to healthcare, as well as giving away promotional items.
