Mayor March Honors Southern Nevada Blue Sox for Win in American Legion Baseball World Series
Mayor Debra March and Councilwoman Gerri Schroder recently honored the Southern
Nevada Blue Sox for their win in the 2017 American Legion World Series held in Shelby, NC. The championship team was sponsored by American Legion BMI Post 40 in Henderson and was made up of players from Basic High School.
The Blue Sox fought their way through a tournament that started with more than 3,600 teams to earn their spot in the championship game. In the final they faced Creighton Prep from Nebraska, the same team that beat them 9-1 earlier in the tournament. The Blue Sox held on to win the final game 2-1 and to take the American Legion World Series title.
“Henderson is so proud of its hometown heroes the Southern Nevada Blue Sox for winning the American Legion World Series championship. Congratulations to all our Henderson players who shared in this victory and to all the happy families in our community who joined in celebrating this win,” Mayor March said.
In a ceremony held at the Galleria at Sunset mall, Mayor March and Councilwoman Schroder presented the team with keys to the city, certificates of appreciation and a proclamation declaring August 17, 2017 as Southern Nevada Blue Sox Day in Henderson as fans and family members cheered for the players and coaches.
