Emergency Management

The Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC) is responsible for coordinating all the components of the emergency management system in the City of Henderson. These components consist of fire, police, homeland defense effort, emergency medical service, public works, volunteers, and other groups contributing to the management of major emergencies or disasters. The Emergency Management Coordinator works with the State of Nevada Division of Emergency Management to coordinate aid requests to other counties and states via the Emergency Management Assistance Compact. The City of Henderson sent fire crews and equipment to California for the 2003 wildfires, and to Arizona in 2006. The City of Henderson Police Department responded personnel and equipment to Mississippi in response to Hurricane Katrina.

The EMC position is appointed by the City Manager and is subject to the direction and control of the Fire Chief. The EMC performs and exercises other such functions as are necessary to promote and secure public safety and protection within the territorial limits of the City of Henderson.
