Professional Biography:
James White was named the city of Henderson Interim Police Chief in March
2012. Chief White leads the police department of the second largest city in
Nevada with an authorized strength of 391 police officers. When he first
became a Henderson Police Officer in January 1988, the department had less
than 70 officers.
As a police officer, White served as a patrol and field training officer. He worked as a detective until his promotion to sergeant in 1994. In 1999 he was promoted to lieutenant and in 2001 was appointed to captain, serving over the East Area Command and later over the Criminal Investigations Division. In 2003 he was appointed to deputy chief and was the Deputy Chief of Operations prior to his appointment as Interim Police Chief.
Born in New York, Chief White joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1969 where he served four years active duty. He spent over 10 years as a small businessman before being hired as a State of Nevada Corrections Officer in 1987.
Chief White received a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Nevada State College as well as an associate’s degree from the College of Southern Nevada. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
White served as the vice president and president of the Henderson Police Officers’ Association from 1990 to 1996. Since 2003, Chief White has been the president of the Henderson Police Athletic League, a nonprofit organization that uses athletics to mentor Henderson youth to realize their full potential as productive members of society.
