Professional Biography:
Douglas Hedger was elected as city of Henderson Municipal Court Judge, Department 2, and assumed office in May 2003. He served as Chief Judge from February 2004 to December 2007. Judge Hedger’s daily court calendars include criminal arraignments, criminal trials, in-custody arraignments, juvenile and adult traffic arraignments, and traffic trials, as well as domestic battery and DUI status checks.
In January 2004, Judge Hedger launched “Legal Minds,” an educational program where Henderson students gain insight into the legal system firsthand. Activities include observing actual court proceedings, touring the Henderson Municipal Court facility, and learning about court operations and personnel.
Prior to being elected Municipal Court Judge, Judge Hedger was a Chief Deputy Public Defender for Clark County from 2001 to 2003. From 1998 to 2001, he was a member of the Capital Defense Team, in addition to serving as Deputy Public Defender from 1990 to 2001.
Judge Hedger earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Brigham Young University in 1987. He graduated from Arizona State University College of Law in 1990.
Judge Hedger is a current member of the Nevada State Bar Association, Clark County Bar Association, American Bar Association, American Judges Association, and Nevada Judges Association. Judge Hedger also serves on the Nevada State College Criminal Justice Program Advisory Committee and as an oral argument judge for the American Bar Association Moot Court Competition. Judge Hedger also volunteers as a Judge for the Clark County Bar Association Trial by Peers Program, as a Boy Scouts of America Scout Leader and as a youth soccer coach.
