Professional Biography:
Bob Cooper serves as the Economic Development/Redevelopment Manager for the city of Henderson. He is responsible for the city's economic development strategy,
which included local business retention and expansion programs, business attraction, strategic business alliances and business ombudsman activities.
Since starting with the city in 1999, Bob implemented the annual Economic Development Awards and Year in Review in partnership with the Henderson Chamber of Commerce to honor local new and expanding businesses. Under his guidance, the Southern Nevada Medical Industry Coalition was founded in 2002 and has grown to a 600-plus volunteer nonprofit organization of Southern Nevada health care professionals, consumers, citizens, local government and chambers of commerce representatives as well as educators.
Cooper has championed the city’s global reach by implementing the Henderson Youth Ambassadors summer program to Dobong, Korea. In 2011, he coordinated the first Global Solar Summit held in Henderson with representatives from China, Korea, Germany and other countries attending.
In 2005, Bob became the first public sector representative to be honored as the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Member of the Year. Additionally, he received the President’s Award from the Clark County Medical Society for his leadership and creation of the Southern Nevada Medical Industry Coalition, was named by In Business Las Vegas as one of the top influential business leaders in the region and was recognized as a Healthcare Hero by Nevada Business Magazine in 2009.
Bob is a published author of numerous articles on economic development with nearly 40 years of experience in the field. He serves on several boards and councils including the President’s Council for Nevada State College, Henderson Chamber Foundation Board, Henderson Chamber of Commerce and the Southern Nevada Medical Industry Coalition.
He received his bachelor’s degree in Geography from California State University, Fresno. In 1982 Bob earned his Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation from the American Economic Development Council.
