Professional Biography:
A city of Henderson employee since 1984, Cindy Herman currently serves as the City's public information
officer. She joined the public information office when she was promoted to Public Information Specialist
in January 2001 and Public Information Manager in 2002. Cindy directs the City's public information
component, which includes public affairs, government relations, issue and crisis communication
management, public information/education programs, and media liaison activities.
Cindy previously served as the city of Henderson Parks and Recreation first Information Specialist from 1999 to 2001. From 1989 to 1999, she served as a Recreation Coordinator overseeing various recreational areas including cultural arts, special events and recreation facility operations. In 1993, she directed the opening of the City's first full-service recreation center, the Lorna J. Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, which became the model for other recreation centers serving the community.
Cindy is a member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). In 2003, she was elected by the local IABC chapter membership to serve a three-year term as President-Elect, President, and Senior Delegate. Cindy received the chapter's highest honor of Communicator of the Year in February 2006, recognizing her as a communications professional who exemplifies the best communications practices in her professional life.
Throughout her career in public information, Cindy has received multiple Bronze Quill awards from the IABC Las Vegas chapter in the areas of writing, publications and multimedia. Cindy has also received recognition for cultural arts and recreation programming from the National Recreation and Parks Association and the Nevada Recreation and Park Society for events such as the Annual Shakespeare in the Park and ArtFest™ of Henderson. In 2001, she was awarded the Citation Award by the Nevada Recreation and Park Society recognizing her contributions in the field of parks and leisure services.
Cindy is a lifelong resident of Henderson and a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas receiving her bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
