Professional Biography:
Mark T. Calhoun was named Assistant City Manager in January 2001. He manages the Fire, Police,
Public Works and Utility Services departments, as well as the Economic Development and Neighborhood
Services divisions. Mark joined Henderson in 1983 as the City Engineer and was selected as the Public
Works Director in 1988. He served as Public Works Director for 12 years during a time of unprecedented
growth for Henderson. During his tenure with the city, the population of Henderson has increased from
30,910 in 1983 to over 265,000 today.
Mark attended the University of Michigan and graduated in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. He held the position of City Engineer at Three Rivers, Michigan until 1979 when he was hired as the Engineering Manager in the Utility Division at the city of Kalamazoo, Michigan. During the summer of 1983, Mark moved to Henderson, Nevada to become the City Engineer.
The American Public Works Association (APWA) honored Mark in May 2000 by naming him one of the "Top Ten Public Works Leaders of the Year," a prestigious national award. In addition to APWA membership, he is a life member of the American Water Works Association (AWWA). He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Colorado River Water Users Association (CRWUA), Project Management Institute (PMI), and the Water Environment Federation (WEF).
Mark has represented the city of Henderson on many regional and state legislative boards, subcommittees, and commissions.
