Professional Biography:
Richard Derrick joined the City of Henderson in 1999 filling the newly created position of Budget
Manager. In July 2004, he was promoted to Manager of Budget and Strategic Management, responsible for
overseeing the City's budget development and management, strategic planning, long-range financial planning,
and performance benchmarking and measurement.
Richard has more than 18 years of experience in budget and financial management. Prior to joining the City, he was the Budget Director for the Clark County School District where he was responsible for the development and management of the District's $2 billion budget. His experience extends to the private sector serving as Manager of Financial Planning at Caesars Palace and as a Staff Accountant for Deloitte, Haskins & Sells public accounting firm.
A Henderson native, Richard holds a Master of Public Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, both received from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Richard is an active member of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), Nevada Government Finance Officers Association (NGFOA), International City/County Management Association (ICMA), American Society of Public Administrators (ASPA), and a graduate of the 2000 Clark County Leadership Forum. He recently completed serving a two year term as Treasurer for the NGFOA.
Currently, Richard is serving a three year appointment to the GFOA's Committee on Governmental Budgeting and Fiscal Policy, as an Audit Committee member for the Clark County Credit Union, and as a Board Trustee for the Henderson District Public Libraries. Richard has also served for the past eight years as a Budget Document Reviewer for GFOA's "Distinguished Budget Presentation Award" program.
