Administration International Accreditation Service

NEWS RELEASE
Certificate of Accreditation by the International Accreditation Service, Inc.

On August 18, 2006, the City of Henderson Building and Fire Safety Department received national accreditation by the International Accreditation Service (IAS). The City of Henderson is the 2nd jurisdiction in the United States to be accredited by IAS and the First to receive unconditional 3-year accreditation. The certificate of Accreditation was presented by Mr. Chuck Ramani, President of International Accreditation Service, Inc. to the Mayor and Council and the Building & Fire Safety Department on September 5, 2006.

The IAS Accreditation criterion is designed to ensure building departments operate under the highest ethical, legal and technical standards. Accordingly, every aspect of Building & Fire Safety Department operations was evaluated by independent IAS evaluators based upon the national "Accreditation Criteria for Building Departments (AC251)" document. The IAS evaluators assessed the department in numerous categories including basic jurisdictional information, department staff qualifications, permitting services, budget, construction codes, plan review services, inspection services, ethics training, customer service delivery, and internal service quality audit programs. The independent evaluators conducted an on-site review of the department over a 5-day period and interviewed appointed and elected officials, department employees, other City department directors, and department customers regarding the department's operations. In addition, the evaluators witnessed plan reviews conducted by department plan checkers and accompanied building inspectors during field inspections.

At the conclusion of the evaluation process, the IAS Board Committee on Accreditation conducted a public meeting and determined the Building & Fire Safety Department met the criteria specified in the "Accreditation Criteria for Building Departments" and the Committee unanimously approved granting the Building & Fire Safety Department unconditional 3-year accreditation.
