  • If I can't keep my pet any longer, can I bring it to the shelter?
    If you are a City of Henderson resident, and have proper ID or a current utility bill stating your Henderson address, you can surrender any of your pets to our facility. There is no fee or charge to do this. For more information please call us.
  • What can I do about my neighbor's dog that seems to bark all the time?
    You may file a telephone complaint with Henderson Animal Control by calling (702) 267-4970. Please see the Report Animal Noise page for more information.
  • Can I do anything about my neighbor whose backyard contains excessive feces from pets?
    You can call our facility at (702) 267-4970 to file a telephone complaint about the excessive amounts of feces in a neighbor's yard. An Animal Control Officer will be dispatched to issue a courtesy notice regarding the complaint.
  • Who do I call if I see a dog or dogs running loose in the City of Henderson?
    You call Henderson Animal Control (702) 267-4970. If prompted to leave a message, please do so and your call will be returned as soon as possible.
  • How do I find out if my lost/missing pet has been impounded and is at the shelter?
    If the animal is wearing a current Henderson license, rabies tag, other type of license, has a microchip or an identification tag, and provided that the contact information is current and accurate, we will notify the owner by phone within 24 hours. Whether the animal left home with ID or if the animal is not wearing any type of identification it is best for the owner to visit our facility and view the animals impounded. You can also view all of the lost pets and adoptable pets that are currently in our facility at PetHarbor.
  • What is mandatory microchipping?
    Effective April 26, 2004, Henderson Municipal Code requires all cats, dogs, and ferrets being reclaimed by or returned to their owner be microchipped at the owner's expense of $25.00. This expense is in addition to any other fees incurred. If the animal is already microchipped and registered to the current owner, then this fee is waived. If the animal is microchipped but not registered to the current owner, then a $10.00 ownership transfer fee will apply.
  • Are there dog parks in the City of Henderson; and where are they? The City of Henderson has dog parks available to the public where dogs can run and play, off leash, with other dogs.  Please observe the posted rules at each park when you visit, so it is a fun and positive experience for the dogs and their owners.

  • How much are pet licenses and how many pets can I have in the City of Henderson?
    Pet licenses are $20.00 for any animal that is not spayed or neutered; $6.00 for animals that are spayed or neutered.

    All dogs, cats and ferrets over the age of 3 months are required to have a current Henderson Animal License, issued by the City of Henderson. This license is required in addition to any rabies tag your veterinarian may have issued you at the time of the rabies vaccination. The rabies vaccination must be valid for at least 6 months in order to obtain a pet license.

    In the City of Henderson you are allowed per household, 3 dogs, 3 cats, and/or 3 ferrets. Home Owners Associations, apartments, mobile home parks, condos, etc. may have more restrictive rules within their communities.
     

  • Do the leash laws apply to cats and ferrets, as well?
    Yes. The law states that "Permitting animals to run at large is unlawful. Animals must be kept under restraint by leash or confined to premises." See our Leash Laws page for more information.
