New Fire and Police Chiefs
With 75 years of service to the community, the City of Henderson welcomes the most experienced and
qualified candidates to lead the safety services departments and reaffirm Henderson’s position as
one of the safest cities in the nation.
Fire Chief Shawn White
Henderson’s new Fire Chief Shawn White follows an esteemed tradition as the city’s
11th fire chief for providing our community with excellent emergency response
services. White is dedicated to serving the community and holds a bachelor’s degree
in fire science from Columbia Southern University.
White was instrumental in starting the Henderson Fire Department’s Officer
Development School and has a passion for training and mentoring firefighters into
“Chief White has the experience and skills that we need at the helm of the Henderson
Fire Department and he knows our community firsthand,” said Henderson City Manager Bob Murnane.
“Shawn is an exceptional leader who is committed to continuing the Henderson Fire Department’s
tradition of providing the best possible emergency response services to Henderson residents.”
Beginning his career in 1989, Chief White worked with the Albuquerque Fire
Department where he reached the rank of lieutenant. He joined the Henderson Fire Department
in 1999 as a firefighter/paramedic, and was promoted to captain and battalion chief before
being named deputy fire chief in 2014.
Joining Chief White is Deputy Fire Chief Tim McKeever
who has served Henderson for more than 26 years.
Police Chief LaTesha Watson
After a national search, LaTesha Watson, a former deputy chief of the Arlington,
Texas Police Department, was chosen from a field of nearly 90 applicants to lead
Henderson’s law enforcement department as Police Chief. In addition to her many
years of police service, Chief Watson possesses a strong academic and research
background, having earned a Ph.D. in management and organizational leadership, a
Master of Science in criminology and a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice.
“Chief Watson brings to the role of police chief proven leadership skills, extensive law
enforcement experience and a vision for building on the success of the Henderson
Police Department,” said City Manager Murnane. “We welcome her to Henderson
and to the innovative new ideas she will bring to the department from her more than two decades in the law
enforcement field and strong academic background.”
Chief Watson’s appointment was ratified by the Mayor and City Council in October.
