HEALTHY HENDERSON 86 HENDERSONHAPPENINGS | Fall 2015 | September-December Healthy Henderson is the City of Henderson’s innovative fitness, health and wellness program that encourages people to get fit and stay healthy. It is a fun, rewarding way to achieve your health and fitness goals through exercise, educational and recreational classes and workshops, special events, and wellness activities. Stay up to date on all Healthy Henderson activities, programs and events by emailing COHHealthyHenderson@cityofhenderson.com or visiting cityofhenderson.com (type “Healthy Henderson” in the search box). Rewards Program If you’re ready to get healthy, stop by your local recreation center or pool and see the front desk for information about obtaining a membership for fitness centers, pools and racquetball courts. Membership packages are listed on page 87. A membership is not required to participate in the rewards program. As a program participant, you will receive a rewards card that allows you to accumulate points redeemable for a reward. Be sure to get your card stamped each time you participate in fitness activities including: • Work out in our fitness centers • Lap swim in our pools • Enroll in a fitness, aquatics or health and wellness class or workshop • Hit the racquetball or wallyball court • Participate in a City of Henderson sports league • Take part in a city-sponsored trail event involving use of one of the trails in our 180+ mile system • Attend a Healthy Henderson-sponsored special event or activity The City of Henderson reserves the right to alter, amend, vary, change, or discontinue the rewards program at any time without prior notice. Indoor Tracks Our indoor tracks can help you beat the heat and avoid high winds … and they’re free to use with a Participant ID card (p. 47). Fourteen laps around the Henderson Multigenerational Center track equals one mile; 12.5 laps at Downtown Recreation Center is one mile. Multi-Fitness Centers Most City of Henderson recreation and senior centers feature a multi-fitness center with treadmills, stationary bicycles, stair steps, and resistance weight machines for a total body workout. They are open during center hours. Participants under the age of 18 must have a waiver on file signed by a parent/guardian (must be present). Participants ages 13-15 must be accompanied by a parent in order to work out. Bring a workout towel. You can pay as a daily drop-in ($4 for adults and $3 Youth/Senior/Veteran) or purchase a membership (p. 87). Passes are non-transferable and non-refundable. Contact your nearest recreation center for more information or visit cityofhenderson.com to take a virtual tour (open the Happenings drop-down menu, click on Recreation Centers, then select a center). Racquetball Courts Play racquetball or wallyball on one of our courts. Players under the age of 18 must have a waiver on file signed by a parent/guardian (must be present). Players ages 7-12 must be accompanied by a parent in order to play. All recreation centers (except Henderson Multigenerational Center) offer racquetball courts. Check with your local center for availability. EVENTS NEW! Family Fitness Fun Enjoy a day of fitness with your family. Have fun exercising together while learning about staying active and making healthy everyday choices. Families engage in various activity stations including cardio, strength and exercise. Event cost is for a family of four. Each additional family member is $2. Color Me Kind 5K Run Help spread kindness with a splash of color and run for a cause to benefit the Josh Stevens Foundation. Participants can be doused with a different color of paint at each kilometer to create a kaleidoscope of fun. Everyone receives their own color packets, giving them a chance to sprinkle a little more kindness along the route. All ages and fitness levels are welcome.
