Suspect Arrested in Murder of Elderly Henderson Woman

 Suspect Arrested in Murder of
Elderly Woman

Henderson, Nev. – On July 6, about 10:30 a.m., Henderson Police and Fire responded to a structure fire at an apartment complex located at 501 E. Lake Mead Pkwy. Emergency responders located an elderly female victim inside the burning apartment with apparent trauma to her head and face. The victim was transported to St. Rose Dominican Hospital – Rose de Lima Campus where she succumbed to her injuries. 


On July 17, Henderson Police arrested 29-year-old Vernon McClelland Jr. at the 700 block of Center Street in Henderson without incident. McClelland Jr. is being held at the Clark County Detention Center on charges of open murder with a deadly weapon, burglary while in possession of a gun, first degree arson, and possession of a gun by a prohibited person; all felony charges. The open murder charge will carry an enhancement penalty due to the victim being elderly.

This is the 5th homicide investigated by Henderson Police in 2018.
