– Henderson was ranked 2nd among Nevada’s five safest cities in a new report
released this week by SafeWise, a professional review and comparison website for the home security industry.
“Chief of Police LaTesha Watson and the men and women of the Henderson Police Department do an outstanding job of keeping our community secure and that is reflected in our ranking as the 2nd safest city in Nevada,” said Mayor Debra March. “We also receive strong support from our community partnerships that enable residents to help our law enforcement officers as they work to stop crime and safeguard the families that call Henderson home. The City continues to invest in technology to ensure that the Henderson Police Department is able to use the tools available in the digital age to get the job done for our residents and visitors. These are all reasons why Henderson is consistently recognized for being a very safe city.”
Henderson maintains a violent crime rate less than half the national average due to the innovative community policing initiatives and data-driven law enforcement policies that have been implemented by Chief of Police Watson. The Henderson Police Department operates a comprehensive Community Relations Bureau and Citizen Police Academy and also runs a community video surveillance program called C.A.P.T.U.R.E.
, which brings residents and police officers together to help solve crime.
identified the five safest cities in Nevada by reviewing the 2016 FBI Uniform Crime Report
statistics and population data. City rankings were based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape and robbery) in each city and if there was a tie, on the number of property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft).
