Henderson, Nev. – Henderson Police are providing the following information and YouTube link regarding the officer involved shooting that took place on August 12, 2018.

On August 12, 2018 at approximately 8:10 p.m., Henderson Police Officer E. Nielsen contacted three individuals in the parking lot of 2667 Windmill Parkway after observing suspicious activity.

As Officer Nielsen furthered his investigation, he contacted a male suspect who was later positively identified as Larry Calvert. The contact with Calvert took place as he was seated in the driver’s seat of a Toyota Camry with a female, later identified as Marcella Levia in the front passenger seat.  Both front doors of the vehicle were open.

Officer Nielsen determined Larry Calvert had provided false information about his identity and was awaiting the arrival of another officer. As an assisting officer arrived, Calvert was directed to exit his vehicle. Calvert ignored Officer Nielsen’s commands and began movements to start the car and prepare to flee. As Calvert starts the car, an altercation ensues in the open doorway of the vehicle. Calvert manages to place the car into reverse, pinning Officer Nielsen within the open door and the body of the Toyota with no means to escape as the suspect vehicle backed up. Officer Nielsen moved backwards attempting to get out of the path of the vehicle, but his foot was driven over as Calvert backs up the vehicle in an attempt to flee. Fearing that his and the assisting officer’s lives were in imminent jeopardy, Officer Nielsen subsequently fired three rounds from his service firearm. Officer Nielsen and the assisting officer were struck by the vehicle as it travelled in reverse.  Calvert fled the scene with Levia in the front passenger seat.
