Henderson Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Collision Involving Pedestrian

September 10, 2018

Henderson, Nev. – Henderson Police are investigating a traffic collision that occurred last night resulting in a pedestrian on a motorized wheelchair succumbing to her injuries.

On September 9, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Henderson Police responded to calls in reference to a pedestrian on a motorized wheelchair versus vehicle collision near the intersection of Greenway Road and Fairway Road.

Preliminary information obtained at the scene indicated the driver of a black 2006 Dodge Dakota was travelling south on Greenway Road in the right travel lane. A 74-year-old female was operating her motorized wheelchair, with no lights or reflective materials, southbound in the right travel lane of Greenway Road near the intersection of Fairway Road. The driver of the black Dodge did not see the female in the same travel lane as he approached the intersection and struck her from the rear. There is a sidewalk and a bicycle lane at the location.

The pedestrian was pronounced at the scene.
During initial investigation, it does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors. The driver of the Dodge Dakota remained at the scene and has been cooperative with the investigation. Northbound and southbound Greenway Road was closed for approximately three and half hours, while fatal accident investigators conducted their investigation.

The name of the pedestrian who succumbed to her injuries will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office after next of kin notifications.

The crash is being investigated as the tenth related fatality this year.
