Henderson, Nev. – The City of Henderson was selected to participate in Startup in Residence, a program that connects government agencies with startup companies to develop technology solutions that address civic challenges.

“The Startup in Residence program gives Henderson the opportunity to promote innovation and cultivate entrepreneurship through the creation of digital applications that will improve the delivery of services for residents and visitors to our city,” said Mayor Debra March. “The projects that result from the City’s participation in this program will enhance our ability to serve the community and help position Henderson as a destination for technology companies looking to relocate or expand.”

Startup in Residence will help to identify and recruit startups that have the expertise and interest in partnering with the City of Henderson on technology projects identified in Henderson’s Smart City Strategy. Startup recruitment will take place from Sept. 25 to Nov. 6 and the 16-week residency program will run from February to June 2019.

The Startup in Residence program was piloted by the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Civic Innovation in 2014 and expanded to cities across the United States through a partnership with City Innovate. The City of Henderson was one of only 31 government agencies selected for the 2019 program which also includes the City of Las Vegas and Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada.

“Participation in the Startup in Residence program will focus and augment the City’s efforts to harness cutting-edge technologies that address some of the citizen services and transportation initiatives that were identified in Henderson’s Smart City Strategy,” said Chief Information Officer Laura Fucci. “We’re especially pleased that the City of Las Vegas and Regional Transportation Commission were also selected for the program which will help our agencies to seamlessly integrate projects at a regional level and enable residents to have the same experience at any location in the Las Vegas Valley.”

Henderson’s Smart City Strategy was adopted in March 2018 through input gathered from internal and external stakeholders, review of up-and-coming technologies and alignment with the Henderson Strong Comprehensive Plan. The strategy identifies technology initiatives in four focus areas: citizen services, public safety, education and transportation.
