Henderson, Nev. – The City of Henderson will join participants throughout the state in taking part in the 2018 Great Nevada ShakeOut earthquake drill at 10:18 a.m. on October 18.
The Great Nevada ShakeOut features the largest earthquake drill ever, organized to inspire Nevadans to get ready for big earthquakes, and to prevent disasters from becoming catastrophes. The ShakeOut drill will occur in houses, businesses, and public spaces alike throughout Nevada at 10:18 a.m. on Oct. 18, when everyone is being asked to “Drop, Cover and Hold On” for several seconds as they would if there were an earthquake.
The state of Nevada is in “earthquake country.” It lies in one of the most seismically active regions in the U.S. (Nevada is third most seismically active state in the country).
“While I am confident that our community is continuing to prepare for an emergency, practice drills like the Great Nevada ShakeOut are a critical part of our efforts to keep residents safe during a disaster,” said Henderson Mayor Debra March.
