City of Henderson Integrates Drone Assessment Tool

– While the Henderson Fire Department’s primary role is to protect the lives and property of the citizens it serves, the department seeks to go beyond this call of duty and provide initial assessment footage of incident scenes using small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) or drones. This new program is a strategy as a part of Henderson’s Smart City’s initiatives of integrating technology to improve the quality of life for the community.
The new drone program will contribute to a safer community by supporting first responders with the following:
• Incident management;
• Search for hurt or lost residents on hiking and bike trails;
• Assess potential repair conditions:
Light detection and ranging (LIDAR)
“We are proud to be in a partnership that will lead the way on creating a safer community with small unmanned aerial systems,” said Laura Fucci, Chief Information Officer. “Henderson supports cutting-edge technologies and we look forward to utilizing these new drones to assist our first responders.”
The Fire Department solicited proposals from qualified companies to provide for four (4) sUAS and associated training, to be used for fire suppression, search and rescue, technical rescue, hazardous materials, emergency management, and training support operations. The City of Henderson has selected Steel City Drones to contract with to build HFD’s drone program.
